A three-day campaign to "eradicate" polio in Pakistan was launched by the country's Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, at an event in the capital, Islamabad. Mr Gilani called on all levels of public administrations to assist the program.
According to the Xinhua Chinese national news agency, the three-day anti-polio initiative was intended to see 30 million children vaccinated against the disease as well as with vitamin A. Pakistan is one of four countries, along with neighboring Afghanistan and India, as well as Nigeria, where polio is considered endemic, according to the World Health Organization (Marketletters passim).
