Global drug behemoth Pfizer has closed its R&D campus in La Jolla, USA, due to the threat caused by the on-going major fire emergency in the San Diego area of southern California. Up to 1,000 scientists and staff at the center have been given time to care for their families and home that are in areas affected by the disaster.
Kitty Mackay, the site's supervisor, said the firm has established a toll-free telephone number for staff to get updates on the situation.
Pfizer's La Jolla facility covers more than one million square and is where the firm is developing new drugs in the oncology field and for diseases of the eye.
