With the aim of taking the industry to broader international horizons, Jordan established a union for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies' manufacturers in 1996, with also a main objective of increasing Jordanian exports to strict markets such as in the USA and Europe. This would lead to increase in interaction with international pharmaceuticals and provide partnership opportunities, reports the Global Arab Network, noting that the country is investing some $1.5 billion in the pharmaceutical sector.
Board Chairman of the union, Adnan Badwan, told the news service that the increase in adoption and expansion of national health insurance and health care schemes in the Arab region and the Middle East provides further potential of growth in demand.
Jordanians have an advantage due to their expertise and high quality of their product should such new opportunities arise, and the Jordanian example of seeking self-sufficiency in pharmaceutical products is also attractive to other states in the region, which could request cooperation.
