Amazon Pharmacy starts filling $50 Medicare GLP-1 prescriptions

US e-commerce giant Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) has begun dispensing weight-loss drugs to eligible Medicare patients for $50 a month, plugging its pharmacy arm into a federal program that has opened the US government's largest health coverage scheme to obesity medicines for the first time.

The drugs on offer are Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk's (NOV: N) Wegovy (semaglutide), in both injectable and tablet form, alongside US pharma major Eli Lilly's (NYSE: LLY) Zepbound (tirzepatide) KwikPen and its oral pill Foundayo (orforglipron), cleared by the FDA in April.
