BRIEF—Orchid Pharma in advanced talks for US licensing of novel antibiotic

India’s Orchid Pharma is in advanced negotiations to out-license its breakthrough antibiotic enmetazobactam in the USA, a move that could mark the company’s commercial entry into the world’s largest pharmaceutical market.

Enmetazobactam, marketed globally as Exblifep in combination with cefepime, received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in February 2024 for the treatment of complicated urinary tract and kidney infections.
