Diasome Pharmaceuticals, a US biopharma developing liver-targeted therapies for metabolic disease, has appointed Sangeeta Sawhney (pictured above) as chief medical officer (CMO), as it prepares to advance its lead candidate, HDV-Insulin, into Phase III development.
Dr Sawhney succeeds Paul Strumph, who led the company through its Phase IIb OPTI-2 trial as interim CMO and will now continue as senior medical advisor. She brings more than 20 years experience in pharmaceutical research and development, most recently as senior vice president and head of R&D at Intercept Pharmaceuticals, where she oversaw clinical development, medical, regulatory, pharmacovigilance and clinical operations functions; she has also held senior roles at Alfasigma and has represented sponsors before US Food and Drug Administration advisory committees and European regulators.
