Express Scripts adds Vivus' Qsymia to its standard benefits program

US drugmaker Vivus (Nasdaq: VVUS) says that Express Scripts, among the USA’s largest Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), has added the firm’s weight loss product Qsymia (phentermine and topiramate extended-release) to its national pharmacy formularies, allowing for coverage where available by benefit design of the first new Food and Drug Administration-approved medication commercially available in the USA in over a decade for the treatment of chronic weight management.

Back in the fall, Vivus announced that Express Scripts has joined the Qsymia Certified Home Delivery Pharmacy Network. At the time, Qsymia was only available through mail order from the Qsymia Certified Home Delivery Pharmacy Network as a part of the Qsymia Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy program (The Pharma Letter October 10)
