Jiuyuan files China approval bid for Wegovy generic

Chinese drugmaker Jiuyuan Genetic Biopharmaceutical (HKEX: 2566) has applied for approval to market its generic version of Novo Nordisk’s (NOV: N) Wegovy (semaglutide) in China, moving early as patent protection on the active ingredient nears expiry in the country.

In a Hong Kong stock exchange filing, the Hangzhou-based company said China’s National Medical Products Administration accepted its marketing application for Jikeqin, intended for weight management in adults with obesity or who are overweight.
