The agreement would allow drugs with both Polish and Lithuanian labels onto the Lithuanian market. According to Lithuanian government officials, drug shortages occur due the requirement for package inserts to be translated in the language of the market they are placed on.
As the Lithuanian drug market is relatively small it is expensive for drugmakers to translate package inserts into Lithuanian. Given these considerations, the Lithuanian health authorities expect prices to drop and get access to more drugs.
