Shares of German drug and chemicals major Merck KGaA rose 3.3% to 85.39 euros this morning, after the company reported a strong et of second-quarter 2012 financial results, with 11.6% growth in total revenues to 2.85 billion euros ($3.51 billion) constituting organic growth of 5.1%, a 5.4% foreign exchange rates (Fx) benefit and a 0.5% increase from acquisition and divestments.
Operating results included 394 million euros in one-time impairments relating to the company’s “Fit for 2018” restructuring program. EBITDA pre (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization and one-time items) rose 14% to 747 million euros, or 27.2% of sales. Net loss for the quarter was 60.5 million euros, versus 86.8 million euros in the like 2011 period.
