Highlights presented at the annual congress of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR 2012), in Berlin, Germany, include new data from Swiss drug major Novartis (NOVN: VX) and USA-based Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) and Bristol-Myers Squibb (NYSE: BMY).

Novartis today reported new positive data from two studies of Ilaris (canakinumab) in patients with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Both studies met their primary endpoints. Data from the pivotal Phase III study (n=177) showed that canakinumab has inactivated the disease in 62% of SJIA patients at the end of the placebo-controlled period.
