No changes to Takeda’s core financials, despite $2.5 billion legal provision

5 June 2026

Japan’s largest drugmaker Takeda (TYO: 4502) today announced that it has filed a revised earnings report which reflects the impact of the jury verdict in the Amitiza(lubiprostone) antitrust litigation in the USA on its consolidated financial statements for fiscal year 2025, which ended March 31, 2026. The firm’s shares dipped 1.8% to 10,580 yen on the news.

The class-action lawsuit dates to 2021 and was filed by pharmacies, health funds, insurers and retailers - including giants such as CVS and Walgreens - who claimed that the pay-for-delay arrangement forced them to overpay for Amitiza. The plaintiffs were awarded $885 million, with that figure potentially swelling past $2.4 billion under federal antitrust laws.
