Russia faces serious decline in launches of new cancer drugs this year

14 August 2026

The number of new cancer drugs are being launched in the Russian market is steadily declining these days, which is mainly due to the drop of local demand for them and tough business environment in Russia at present.

According to data from the Russian analyst Cursor, in 2025 only 81 new oncology drugs were registered in Russia, which is 21% less compared to 2024. The market, however, is growing this year, but only in value terms, which is mainly due to high inflation rates in the country. In the first half of 2026, the market reached 187.4 billion roubles ($2.15 billion), a 17% increase compared to the same period last year. From 2024 to August 1, 2026, 232 new anti-cancer drugs were registered in Russia, which is substantially lower, compared to previous years.
