Senate Democrats outline broad push to rein in US healthcare costs

A group of Senate Democrats has set out an expansive healthcare reform agenda, targeting rising insurance costs and insurer profits while positioning the effort as a response to recent Republican-led policy changes.

In a “Dear Colleague” letter, finance committee ranking member Ron Wyden and 11 senators argued that “America’s for-profit health insurance system is fundamentally broken,” citing surging premiums, growing patient dissatisfaction and widespread barriers to care.
