Trump pushes cannabis research, but timelines remain unclear
The US president has signed an Executive Order directing federal agencies to move more quickly toward rescheduling marijuana and expanding research into medical cannabis and cannabidiol products, a step welcomed by industry but unlikely to bring rapid legal change.
The order instructs the US attorney general to complete the rulemaking process to move marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act “in the most expeditious manner.” Cannabis is currently classified as having no accepted medical use under federal law.
