USA completes WHO withdrawal, dues dispute simmers

The USA has completed its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO), according to a joint announcement by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the US Department of State. 

The statement frames the move in overtly political terms, accusing the WHO of pandemic mismanagement and undue influence by member states.

The Trump administration says it stopped funding the WHO, withdrew US personnel, and shifted activities to direct bilateral engagements during a one-year notice period. It also says future coordination with the organization will be limited and focused only on implementing the withdrawal.
