US jury backs Amgen in cholesterol drug patent battle

Two patents protecting Amgen’s (Nasdaq: AMGN) recently-approved cholesterol-lowering drug Repatha (evolocumab) have been declared valid by a US jury.

The decision is a setback to Sanofi (Euronext: SAN) and Regeneron (Nasdaq: REGN) who make the rival drug Praluent (alirocumab) and have issued a statement saying they “strongly disagree” with the verdict and plan to appeal against it.
