NeoRx and partner Schwarz AG have reported data from a Phase I trial oftheir heparin-coated stent, Benestent, which indicate that the product is safe at all dose levels tested, and may reduce the rate of restenosis. Only 20% of the Benestent group experienced a clinical event (death, myocardial infarction or revascularization), compared to 38% of those given a placebo. Phase II trials will begin in second-quarter 1998.
