Prescription charge changes in England

16 March 2009

From April 1, changes will be made to National Health Service prescription charges and some dental treatments in England. Also the  value of optical vouchers will also increase by an overall 2%.

The prescription charge exemption for people being treated for cancer,  the effects of this disease or that of its treatment also comes into  force from April 1. This new scheme will benefit up to 150,000 people  already diagnosed with cancer, who might otherwise pay around GBP100  ($140) a year in prescription charges.

Prescription charges will increase by 10 pence from GBP7.10 to GBP7.20, also  effective April 1.
