Rhone-Alpes develops biotech infrastructure

The Rhone-Alpes administrative region of France, which includes the country's second biggest city Lyon, is a leading center in the  life-sciences sector, with 600 such businesses employing 30,000 staff.  It also has one of the highest concentrations of hospitals and medical  treatment centers in the European Union: three university hospitals and  400 public or private clinics.

Among the high-profile scientific establishments in the region is the  European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN), but in the life sciences  sector the Rhone-Alpes authorities have focused on partnerships between  academic R&D and business, with several competitiveness clusters.
