Sergio Dompe, the president of Italy's research-based pharmaceutical association, Farmindustria, has expressed "great appreciation" for the inauguration of the Siena Biotech Research Center, which aims to provide world-class R&D facilities for biotechnology innovation. Mr Dompe said: "even in a time of world crisis, it is essential that we continue to invest in research."
In other news, Mr Dompe welcomed the promotion of Ferruccio Fazio to Deputy Health Minister. Prof Fazio has led the handling of swine influenza and is well regarded by the Farmindustria (Marketletter February 9).
