Study: DTP supply may mean bleak future for EU pharmacists

A new survey by URCH Publishing, an independent business information firm, highlights the increasing trend towards direct-to-pharmacy medicine supply in Europe. Principal author Faiz Kermani explains that "the adoption of a direct-to-pharmacy model by some of the industry's most powerful players...signifies a new trend that could spread across Europe."

Dr Kermani added that, with major manufacturers driving the changes, the near-term prospects for pharmacists appear bleak, and he predicted the emergence of a new class of super-distributors with links to selected wholesalers.
