Taisho and GSK to develop orlistat in Japan
Japan's Taisho Pharmaceutical has signed a deal with a local subsidiary of UK drug major GlaxoSmithKline to develop and market the obesity drug orlistat.
The intestinal lipase blocker, which reduces absorption of fat from the diet, was developed by Swiss drug major Roche. GSK has the rights to develop orlistat 60mg for non-prescription use worldwide.
