Thailand "threat" to USA over CL policy

Thailand's Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, has warned the USA that a downgrade of the Asian country's trade status would generate growing  public pressure for more compulsory licenses to be issued against  patent-protected drugs. The Bangkok Post reported that the Prime  Minister gave the warning to a US delegation that included Ambassador  Eric John and representatives of the US ASEAN Business Council.

The threat of trade sanctions against Thailand by the USA is the result  of a series of compulsory licenses issued against research-based  drugmakers under the World Trade Organization's agreement on  Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs;  Marketletters passim).
