- Tomen Corp has bought 50% of Kato Suishodo Seiyaku to become thefirst major Japanese trading house to manufacture pharmaceuticals. The purchase price and loans to expand the firm's business into marketing is put at 1 billion yen ($8.6 milion). Kato is a producer and marketer of general pharmaceuticals, with annual sales of about 1.5 billion yen.
