UK volume price plan for GSK's Tyverb

The UK-based pharmaceutical major GlaxoSmithKline is allegedly considering the offer of a volume pricing model for its oncology drug Tyverb/Tykerb (lapatinib) to the National Health Service in England and Wales. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), which advises the NHS outside Scotland on which medicines to prescribe, rejected Tyverb on cost grounds, although a consultation process with the possibility of a positive review has been initiated (Marketletter July 14). GSK refused to comment on the specifics of the claims, which were reported in the Financial Times.
