- US Bioscience's amifostine, which has already shown activity in reducing the toxicity of certain chemotherapeutic regimens by stabilizing DNA and reducing mutagenesis, may act as a hematopoietic growth factor. Data presented at ECCO 8 by researchers from the company and the University of Arizona Cancer Center suggest that amifostine may be more potent in stimulating early hematopoietic colony forming units than recombinant cytokines.
