Data from the US Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks business influence on politics, confirms that Senator Barack Obama (Democrat, Illinois) is maintaining a significant funding lead over his main rival, Sen John McCain (Republican, Arizona) in the presidential election on November 4 (Marketletters passim). Donations over $200 reported to the Federal Election Commission for the pharmaceuticals and health products sectors to all candidates in the current electoral cycle total $3.2 million, with Sen Obama on $1.1 million and Sen McCain on $527,816.
