The US media, lawyers and anti-immunization activists should explain to their audiences that human papillomavirus vaccine is not harmful, according to one of the pharmaceutical industry's most widely-read bloggers, Jim Edwards. The call for responsible reporting came after Mr Edwards commented on the results of a 370,000-dose study of US drug major Merck & Co's Gardasil by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which found three unexplained fatalities among the girls who were inoculated against HPV and cervical warts with the vaccine. Data from the Food and Drug Administration and the CDC's own adverse event reporting systems were used to compile the report.
