US Senate urged to act on antibiotic pipeline
The Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics, in a submission to the US Senate on the issue of drug resistance, has called for a three-pronged approach to deal with the problem which costs Medicare $20.0 billion per year. The APUA calls more surveillance and warnings, incentives to drugmakers to stay in the antibiotic sector, and better use of existing medicines to avoid resistance.
