Walgreens, the USA's largest drugstore chain, acting through its subsidiary OptionCare Enterprises, is to acquire CuraScript Infusion Pharmacy, for an undisclosed fee.
CuraScript is currently the pharmacy benefit management company Express Scripts' wholly-owned, home infusion services division. It is expected to pass into the hands of OptionCare early next month.
The acquired division is one of the USA's largest providers of infusion services. It has operated for over 15 years and supports patients who require complex therapies including anti-viral, immune deficiency, inotropic, chemotherapy and pain management treatments. Walgreens will acquire each of CuraScript's 12 facilities located in the states of Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee. They will be added to the existing 6,252 Walgreens stores that already operate in 49 US states, Columbia and Puerto Rico.
