Wegovy label should be extended, CHMP recommends

20 September 2024

The European Medicines Agency’s (EMA) advisory committee the CHMP has adopted a positive opinion for a label update of Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk’s (NOV: N) Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4mg).

The label update incorporates data showing that Wegovy, when added to standard of care, can reduce heart failure-related symptoms and improve physical limitations and exercise function in people with obesity-related HFpEF, with or without type 2 diabetes.

The current prime indication for Wegovy is as a weight loss treatment, and the drug generated sales of around $4.5 billion last year and revenues in the second quarter of this year were up 55%.
