A US state-run prescription drug program for uninsured residents is expected to enroll 10,000 people in its first year, according to the local Charleston Gazette. The West Virginia Rx scheme, which covers one of the poorer US states, is open to people aged 18 to 65 on less than twice the federal poverty level. Medicines are donated by drugmakers and a $30 fee per year is charged. The program's Director, Barbara Dane argues that the state saves on hospital bills.
