This year's World Alzheimer's Day celebrates those who care for people with the disease and focuses on the contribution they make to society. It is an opportunity to give carers the recognition they deserve, says Alzheimer's Disease International (www.alz.co.uk), one of the charities that organizes the event, held each year on September 21.
During the run-up to the day itself, events such as memory walks, information days, tea parties and a host of fundraising activities will be held around the world to help raise awareness of the disease - and this year to help highlight the job that carers do in looking after those who are living each day with Alzheimer's, two thirds of whom live in the community with the other third living in care homes.
